Asthma Screening Study (HUM00211543)
MI Asthma Research is seeking people with uncontrolled asthma willing to participate in
clinical trials. Patients may be asked to visit the clinic for a 1-time, 1-hour visit for screening
tests at no cost to them and may be eligible to receive compensation for their time.
Screening visit tests may include:
FeNO, spirometry with bronchodilator, CBC, and a methacholine test
An oral steroid burst for an asthma flare, often means asthma control could be improved.
The effects of each course of steroids may accumulate over time.
Lungs naturally change with age, but repeated asthma attacks can speed that process up. Preventing flare-ups is just as important as treating them.
Persistent uncontrolled airway inflammation can lead to airway remodeling and fixed airflow limitation; some changes may not be fully reversible.
Individuals eligible to participate:
Are between 18 - 80 years old and have physician-diagnosed asthma.
Require continuous treatment with high dose meds (such as Symbicort, Brea Ellipta, Advair Diskus, Advair HFA, AirDuo, Wixela, Dulera, Trelegy Ellipta).
Have been prescribed prednisone within the last 12 months due to 1 or more exacerbations.
